Is it worth it?

I can only write
when it’s 2am
and all the doors are closed
lights off
silent
that is when
the darkness catches hold
of me
and it doesn’t let go
for days
sometimes
the most beautiful thoughts
come from this
place
of pain
and
fear
and
purity
why is it that happiness
takes away the words
our souls are screaming?
do we have nothing
to say
when
the world
is bright
because we are
happy
or because
we know
it isn’t
real?
