Call The Plumber
Your boiler is broken
There is a puddle on the floor of your kitchen, beneath your sink
Everytime you wash the dishes you slip
But it's okay, cause it's only a leak
You could call the plumber, but he probably has better things to do
There are other boilers leaking in the city
Bigger leaks for him to fix
He'll think you're pathetic for ringing when you could just put a towel over it and wait for it to dry
But the puddle will only get bigger
You'll only slip earlier as you creep to wash the dishes
As you make your way through your kitchen
Lost in your daily routine, knowing that puddle is coming
And knowing you will fall but it still does not need fixing
Soon, as your kitchen becomes engulfed in the water
You will stop asking friends over for tea,
Too ashamed to let those closest see
The parties will stop because you don't want them to see the puddle
Know that you can't tend to your own home
They'll think you're pathetic for showing them that you didn't just put a towel over it and wait for it to dry
But your kitchen is not the only room in the house
There's a bedroom that is kept clean
There's a living room with a couch comfier than a cloud in a dream at night
There are pictures hanging on the walls with a million stories behind them
But you will not get an oppurtunity to tell the stories
Because you're too busy swimming through your kitchen
Trying to keep your head above the water just so you can eat breakfast
And swim back out to pretend to the world that you aren't drenched
That there is no puddle, what are you talking about, my hair isn't wet?
I just got out of the shower, busy me, you know.
And as you shut the doors each morning, the water gets trapped in your house
Your safe place is now the place that you will drown.
You can't rest your head because the water keeps you floating
As though your bed is a comforting hand you can't quite reach
But you can't open the front door to leave
Because the water might escape and everyone will see
That you didn't tend to the puddle, you just let it leak
And as you take your last breath, unable to find a reason to fight
When you can't even continue with your daily life
Feeling pathetic when the plumber fixes such a simple blight
Won't seem such a big deal anymore
So why didn't you just call the plumber?
