Boreas Breath | Teen Ink

Boreas Breath MAG

By Anonymous

We know the truth,
I know we do.
It’s cold outside;
the glass of our window
is covered in florid
designs of frostbitten water.
We know the truth,
the secret behind this molecular ballet.
We know the secret of the empty
black night sky.

Shivers are not pleasant,
but neither is a day without snow.
Where is the snow?
Where is the ice?
Does it hang up in the air,
a framework of crystallized frost?
Yes – it sits,
it floats.
Waiting to bring resolution.

I love this poem so much. It has such great meaning and strong expression with descriptions and questions directly to the reader. This is like the best poem!

You do a great job of creating a sense of suspense and mystery. Read Wallace Steven's "The Palm at the End of the Mind" and Gwendolyn Brooks' "The Explorer." They, for whatever reason, create a similar atmosphere to your poem here.

:)

I clicked on it because it reminded me of the words Aurora Borealis, which i intend to write about the first time i see it...

Pretty poem

i really like this poem, but some words are a little misplaced for example "molecular" seems too harsh and angular a word next to the softness of "ballet."

love it though!

I love it. Not only does your piece involuntarily sketch out the scene you are illustrating with your words, but it hooks readers in a fascinating way. :)
