A Hero
Everything matters
to someone or something
no matter how unimportant
its appearance might imply.
A small gray pebble;
a single snowflake;
a drop of rain:
none are as inconsequential
as they may seem.
A single snowflake is a sight
far too commonly seen of late
it may appear unwanted by all,
but it can matter just the same.
That single snowflake might fall
on a single blade of grass,
and the water
in this fluffy drop
could be the difference
between life and death.
To a young woman driving,
the snowflake is annoying
and a possibly dangerous;
to the grass, it is a hero.
And the grass, in its turn,
is a hero to the deer
whose belly it helps fill.
