curiosity
Our Guardians sheathed our mouths from rebellion
Our Saints sheltered our ears from blasphemy
Our Mentors shielded our eyes from oppression
Our Parents taught us to live in monogamy
But though we are watched
From suspicious eyes
And prompted forward in heavy chains
I am bitterly human
Because what they don’t know
…Or is it because they know best?
That a man’s curse no matter how much
He will preach
Is his wandering eye, ravenous mind
And curiosity.
