Center of The Earth
I should have recognized the taste
of embers burning up against your lips
the first time you called me
the center of your earth.
But I let you swing from the rafters
of my barn house skeleton,
and laughed as my fragile framework
began to warp.
Now I am splinters held in mason jars
and charred grass staining a sea
of backyard memories,
as you find another toothpick house
to bring you definition.
