A River of My Own
I have a river of my own
Its waters formed from my own tears
Laconic in all ways except for their wrinkles
A river just like me
I have a river of my own
With a loud, sagging boat on top
Its body made of pieces from my shattered heart
Its interior woven by a thin string of memory
A boat just like me
I have a river of my own
Drowning a paddle into its circle of gravity
Wait, what’s a violin bow doing here?
A sinking paddle, a tired paddle, a lifeless paddle
A paddle just like me
I have a river of my own
Where I always find another me in the water
Staring back at me with a smile
Except that its eyes are always tired, fatigued and dark
An image just like me
I have a river of my own
With a loud, sagging boat on top
Drowning until someone pushes it back up
A force stronger than nature, stronger than will
It’s called love and I think
I have a river just like me.
