To Elizabeth

April 16, 2013

Your private mirror warps your beauty.
You are ruled by a deceptive scale.
You’re too sad to see the brilliance of your own mind,
the joy it brings to others.
You're too hungry to learn how much you are hurting others.
You slice into your own arms,
two cakes of baked suffering with lovely frosting.
Your mother weeps.
Your father sighs.
We as your friends are just left to wonder.
Which spell was cast upon your mind?
What stressors, which wrongdoings?
We long to take them back,
to do anything to move you forward
out of this emotional sinkhole.
We love you, Elizabeth.
