“There comes a time in our lives when we do things that we don’t understand. We confuse ourselves, we might even logically oppose our impulses and yet we act on them anyway... There are some things that we feel that we absolutely must do. We might know that they are wrong, or pointless, or gravely punishable, and yet we do them anyway. These actions are not born of anger or emotion – we are perfectly sober. It’s rather inexplicable. When the time comes, we can’t stop ourselves and so we cannot blame ourselves.” -Umasi, Truancy

The passing of a loved one
Can open our eyes
To the way we have lived
For most of our lives

We reflect on the past,
On memories hidden
Searching for hope
We might be forgiven

We silently call
Through time and space
Just wanting to see
Our loved one’s face

Not wanting to say
Our final goodbyes
Knowing one day we’ll meet
In those heavenly skies

Through so much pain
Some say we weaken
But we really know
Our hearts will strengthen

For the ripples of time
Can never truly erase
The gentle feeling
Of love’s eternal embrace

I wrote this piece shortly after a veryclose friend of the family passed away. She was only in her 40's and passed away due to cancer. We were all shocked by the sudden news and I wanted to write something for her. May she rest in peace and smile down on her loving family and friends...
