Frayed Friendship
I guess I always knew this would happen.
You can’t hang on to a fraying rope forever, can you.
There’s only so many times you can weave the ends back together.
Only so long that you can pretend nothing’s wrong.
But there comes a time when the tattered remains fall apart.
Rich memories turn dry,
Dead leaves that fall,
Rot in tear-soaked earth,
Then fade.
Leaving only a dull ache behind.
Thus it was that we best friends
Became complete strangers.
