Dionysus serve a gold chalice
Of your precious wine
Red as blood
Or gold as honey

Wine made of bursting grapes
Falling off the vines
Fit for Zeus
And not for me

Then give me to drink your
Silver tears
That slide down your
Wrinkling cheeks

Then give me the hemlock
The juice so sweet as wine
Let me drink the drink that I please
Let me love the drink I want

The flutes overflow with sparkling wine
The goblets are half filled of misery and rue
The chalice is brimmed of life
But the demitasse holds death like any other drink

I don't really know the meaning to this poem, even though I wrote it. One day, I began to write down anything that sounded nice, and out of nowhere this sprang to life. lol
Tell me what you think it might mean to you or if you like it.

Thank you. And I love your interpretation. It always add a new light to this poem anytime someone tried to explain it to me.

I gather it is  person who wishes to bask in the great elixir to feel better about himself. Witrh such drinks that are drunk by the gods he or she hopes to lift his or hers worth to the world. Nothing long but short and straight to the point.

I appreciate it when someone takes the time to interpret and decipher one of my poems. What an honor that is to me! Thank you. And your interpretation is also one I hadn't really thought of; but now that I see what you're saying, I'm seeing this poem with a different perspective. That's poetry. It's like a diamond. It has many facets. Not everyone sees it the same way.

The more control you have over yourself, the less control others have over you.

So, I have read this many, many times trying to configure some meaning. And this is what I came up with.. this person is asking people that are much higher than him for things that he assumes he probably does not deserve, but in a way wishes he did and was able to just have them without having to ask. He feels like he's been downgrading himself for a long time and thinks that maybe he finally deserves regal things, so he finally asks. 'Ask, and Ye Shall Recieve' He gets what's he's asked for, expecting to love it so much, because remember he 'deserves' this, only to find that this cup 'new life that he deserves' is filled with misery and despair. That's what I got from this! I hope that just made sense and didn't make me look like a crazy person! Haha! Anyways, I love it, even though my interpretation may not be correct. c:

Haha, dont you hate that? Poems that you dont understand, but wrote? I dont share mine. Oh, sometimes I recognize an extra meaning or deapth accidentally said in one of my poems, but i dont share the ones that I dont understand on a basic level. Hmmm... To me, it sounds like someone is asking for trouble, like they are chaceing something important or some precious dream that they know cant end well.
