Descent
The thing that no one realizes
Is that it’s far easier than you think
To lose yourself.
It seems to happen gradually,
As though falling apart
Is as easy as finding yourself.
Oh it’s smooth and slippery, no angry edges or harsh angles
And you don’t even realize you’ve fallen -
Until it’s too late.
That’s the difference between falling apart and breaking down.
A break is hard and sharp and oh so sudden
But not a fall, for by definition a fall is graceful.
It’s tragic, yes, to fall, but graceful and beautiful and magic
As you descend into the oblivion of nothingness.
That’s what life is:
Sad and horrible and magically, tragically beautiful
And every second we are falling apart.
Because every moment you are not being born,
You are in the process of dying.
And every second you are not finding yourself,
You are falling apart.
