Tears of a Soldier
They say “grown men don’t cry”
but I can’t help a little tear
skidding down my cheek,
falling down unto my bloodied uniform.
As I watch.
Watch Germans, Austrians, Hungarians, and Italians.
Watch Britains, the French, and Russians
all fighting, not know what for.
We Americans just joined in,
not knowing what we were getting into.
Total war is what we’ve created.
Peace won’t come easy.
It may not come at all.
We’ll fight for peace.
As I watch
I see other grown men,
tears splashing their blood sodden uniforms.
Could this all go away?
Like a bad dream,
we can just open our eyes
and find ourselves home again.
The tears keep spilling
but no one is ashamed,
we keep fighting,
as we watch grown men
breaking down in sobs.
