Words
We’ve all heard those conversations;
They will appear in endless locations:
In school and out, under fluorescent light,
Or whispered at home in the dead of night.
Words that are spoken to friends and to strangers;
Words that are meant to stay between the exchangers.
“He’s too nerdy, she’s fat, he’s dumb,
She would go out with anyone,
Her hair is gross, she looks like a fool,
He must think that he’s so cool.”
Their words are hateful against someone not present.
They target their flaws without their consent.
Even if the speakers know it’s not right,
They constantly defame friend and foe alike.
As soon as a person is not in the room
Their evil words will condemn them to doom.
So you sit and listen, even join in too,
But can’t help but wonder what they say about you…
