Patches
It’s been a while
Since my fingertips have brushed
These smooth keys
For anything more than mashing words together
To form a paper
About some such nonsense
So I think I’ll start
Where I am
It’s easy to it in the creases
Underneath your eyes
And the way your hands
Trace my skin
You are not without fear
You have spent many a sleepless night
Trapped within the same space
Hands bludgeoning the carpet
Trying to convince any of the white
To appear to you
Shining in the light
Shed in slits through your blinds
It isn’t like you to leave them open
But sometimes
When your hands ravage your face
And your body shakes
It’s easy for you to forget things like this
Things like days in a month
Or that snow is only snow
And not the savior you so held dear
It’s fine
This phrase scours our lives
Clenched tightly in our teeth
Ready at the slightest moment to be released
And spit out at inhuman speeds
Do not tell me that, love
That is when worry shrinks my bones
When my heart is parched
For any sort of hope
Do not tell me that the brain forms emotion
When it is my soul that cries out
Against the despair that floods through it
There will be no shortage of days
When you are seeing all
Except the tears sparkling in my eyes
Your hands clawing at reality
Like a silk curtain
My hands trapping yours
Trying to force any semblance of reason
To percolate your pores and fill your veins
Despite this
There are days when your smile
Is genuinely stretched across your face
And for a moment I see
Who you were before
Who you have a chance of becoming
These are the days
Where I attach myself to your chest
And try to match my breath with yours
And realize
That maybe someday you’ll be okay
