The Storm you Hoped for Never Came
The sun rises and the city wakes, but your soul still sleeps.
Even in your dreams you weep.
Life wears you down and cuts you deep.
Your hopes and wishes lie in heaps.
Your fears and struggles make the mountain steep.
So young, you didn't understand how life worked yet.
So innocent, you didn't have any regrets.
You watched a lot of sunrises and fewer sunsets.
You couldn't recognize the other side of life even if your eyes met.
Without a worry in the world you listened to your music, compact disks, and cassettes.
Growing up, you payed attention to the words
Suddenly, every single memory you had seemed absurd.
A bird leaving the nest for the first time; you were that bird.
The world was bad by two thirds.
It wasn't black and white like you used to think, but gray it was colored.
As an adult, you waited for the revolts.
It seemed you were the only one, and that made you feel like a dolt.
The others, they were somewhere far away locked away in a key-less volt.
Nothing came, maybe some wind and clouds, but no rain, no thunder, no lightning bolts.
The wind stirred up few, nothing, and no one in this part, but maybe in another part of the world it caused a jolt.
A scary thought passes through you and you shudder : Old age and nothing changed.
Your soul and heart cry out with all their rage.
No one out there wanted the story to take a turn or continue, just reading the same old words just reliving the same old words, unaware the writer didn't get to finish it ; no one was brave enough to write their own new chapter and take control of their story; no one was brave enough to turn the page.
You wish you would have grabbed your pen because that storm never arrived at other's doors, but inside you it raged.
The sun rises and the city wakes, but your soul still sleeps.
Even in your dreams you weep.
Life wears you down and cuts you deep.
Your hopes and wishes lie in heaps.
Your fears and struggles make the mountain steep.
You climb your way up to the peak and your heart stops.
There's nothing better on the other side like there was supposed to be when you reached the top.
You're close to the edge ready to drop.
All it takes is one leap, or a couple of hops.
You're mind goes blank, shuts down, and restarts; You can't jump because you have a job to keep trying and fighting for a better future like crime is fought by a cop.
