Not a Fairy Tale
In success I find no balloons
Like the ones that decorate the room.
I am trapped
In a gilded box shrinking each day,
‘till I’m curled up like a parched embryo
In a dry womb.
My heart rate climbs,
My breathing shortens;
Surely suffocation is more pleasant,
More like a rose’s thorns.
I find floating to the sky
In a fit of ecstasy
Only when I can lie with you
And count the stars.
You’ve said you feel the same,
But when do you run a thousand miles
To reach our secret spot?
Your words tell lies.
I love
I miss
I need
I will.
Words read from the heart of another.
Actions speak the truth.
You don’t.
You won’t.
You never try.
I’ve locked away my heart
This time deep inside my chest.
You know love from a fairy tale;
I knew mine from my own heart.
