My Corner Kick Goal
Studying it
as it came to me.
Knowing it was going to happen.
Knowing I was going to make it happen.
Then
jogging,
running,
sprinting
as I gazed at it
as it dived down
during its angled descent,
as if it were an airplane,
landing and screeching to a halt.
Then getting into position, not
knowing what’s in front of me, not
caring what’s in front of me.
Rearing my neck back and
springing upward towards it.
Thrusting my head until I feel the
ever so
slight pain.
Blinking my eyes just in time to watch
it slice through the thin hot air.
Then smashing into the black
and white thread
held together by the
perfectly aligned white poles,
then dropping,
bouncing,
and rolling to the ground.
Back to me.
As if it were mine.
