“Your grandfather is dying,” he said
I thought about how I loved this man
Who smoked cigarettes in a derelict farm
With only two faded photographs of me on the wall
[Plump and six, innocence removed from its time]
And how today when I was arranging my future
Under the misnomered heading “family”
I was so terribly disappointed to check
The box “living” beside your name
