Who Am I?
Where am I from?
I’m from Saturdays
Spent watching cartoons before anyone awakes.
I’m from leaves
From dog-eared pages
From the light sea breeze on a September evening.
I’m from hot chocolate
And he’s from an old stereo.
But where’s she from?
We won’t know for sure, but we can guess.
I’m from snowmen
State fairs
Sunday comics
And just a pinch of salt water.
Let me ask you where you’re from.
Loving parents?
Sure.
Beloved hometown?
Alright.
But more than that.
The little things.
The gaps in between that seem to fill space
Interludes, intermissions.
I’m from icy winter mornings,
From diving boards and dominoes.
But you already knew that.
