On the top shelf the robot sits
On sale for 50 cents
Collecting dust on its little metal heart
It's cold metal eyes and bright shiny smile
It can never change
Five years pass it's all the same.

A few children try to take the toy into the depth of their imagination
But the poor robot can't understand
No matter how hard it tries

It cant return the children's love
It can't share their sorrow their triumph
So it get set back up to await the next attempt

On the shelf for five long years
Trying to pull itself into reality
Determined to become human again

And then she feels it
She feels
But still doesn't know what it is
Doesn't know what to do
Tries to return to her stiff metal shell

She notices the other robot
As shes struggling to understand
He's plunged into reality
It's her turn now
And he slowly helps her in

Together as friends
She is real
He is real
They are human again

On the top shelf the robots sit
On sale for 50 cents
Friends forever friends till the end
Their warm metal eyes and bright shiny smiles
They will never change
