A Walk on East 52nd Street
The teenage girl, not knowing herself,
Begs for reassuring attention.
The marked looks, the cunning smiles,
Help tell her what she's worth.
But the wolfish gleam in a passer's eye
Unnerves the jaded woman.
It does not appreciate, does not respect.
She sees only what she did not seek.
