Illegitimate Daughter
Walking down the street
Seeing a dad on one knee
Hugging his daughter
Who’s crying over the simplest thing
I watch carefully eyeing everything
Wondering what it feels like
To be simply carefree
Of what having a dad could be
Illegitimate that’s what they call me
A word that means nothing to me
Yet that’s what society describes me
When Father’s Day comes around
My smile turns into a frown
Seeing dads walking around
Tightly holding his children’s hand
But I’m ok
Because I’ve come to realize
That God’s my father all the way
Through ups and downs
And turn arounds
To little or no faith
He was always there for me
In any state
So maybe being an illegitimate daughter
Isn’t so bad
You’re special in your own way
In every kind of way
