crisp fog, dreary mist and salty spray
hide the painful reality
of trembling gazes of
desperate souls.

a sea lavished with secrets
locked up in a wooden chest
hidden in the cabinet of a wooden boat
forever lost within the chaos
of monochrome sapphire waves

bolts of lightning crackle
shred apart the sky
thunder booms deep
against the fall of weary rain

the sea wails its feelings
and shakes the earth
never ending patterns of Atlantic salt
blessed with a curse

songs of wood
creaks and cracks
sinking, sinking
to the depths of the sandy floor

the sky's a field
of blazing stars
and a forgotten body
of flowers and graves

I navigate the vast expanse
of this starry wasteland,
speckled with lost dreams
that died before they were born

I will anchor myself
to the hope of finding
the glowing beacon
of nothingness
that illuminates the pebbled horizon

to stumble upon the abandoned lighthouse
whose paint has chipped
and faded dry

the rain tears me apart
with cries of tomorrow
the sting of salt water
on a fresh cut

and if this ship should sink
I will go down with this ship
though I know it was never mine
counting the grains of sand at the bottom of the ocean

I thirst for the day when
ocean waves will crash
upon my brittle structure
enough times to take me home
