This Is How I Love

You've raised me
my whole life
to not care
what people think
Why was it
such a surprise
that when 18
came around
I didn't care
how they saw me.
I'm unable
to comprehend
how being
myself
could be
a bad thing.
Surrounded by
these close-minded
sheep
playing Shepard
trying to show
me the light.
My heart
knows more love
than your
golden book
has told your mind
to have.
If you judge
me, on
how I love,
I will judge
you, on
how you love
not.
