I reject your reality and substitute my own!

A stone that holds a steeple together
A stone to keep it from falling—crumbling on its knees

Cracks now forming

The rock to stay—to hold up the weakest link
To keep the chain together

Rust now runs deep

The protectors of the weak
Never protected themselves
Take many faces

The weak
The old
The young
And
The new

A stone to hold together the weak
To keep all from failing

Now falling from highest towers

A rock to fill a crack
To keep the rest from rotting

No longer a beauty to be seen

The protectors that never cry
Never to feel that they can
Hold on through endless nights

Over and over again

I wrote this for a creative writing class and I became extremly attached to it. A fatal flaw of mine. I wrote while my family was fighting and I had to play adult.
