I Write Poetry
'What do you do?'
'I write poetry'
'Oh really? That's cool! What about?'
Interested.
I tell them.
'What do you do?'
'I write poetry'
'Oh'
I don't care.
That's okay.
Everyone's entitled to their own opinion.
'What do you do?'
'I write poetry'
'Who does that?'
Disgust.
Well I write poetry.
And I'm proud.
'What do you do?'
'I write poetry'
'Um.....okay....'
What's wrong with her?
I'll get back to you on that.
But the words start picking at me.
'What do you do?'
'I write poetry'
'Why?'
Confused.
Why would someone write poetry, after all.
I can't remember why anymore
Because your reactions cloud my vision.
'What do you do?'
'I write poetry'
'That's lame'
Laughing.
Trust me, I know.
So why then?
Why do I write?
I wish I knew.
But I can't stop.
'What do you do?'
I write poetry.
'I sing'
'Oh...uh....cool....?'
And it's back at the beginning.
Maybe if everyone stopped questioning me,
I'd stop questioning myself.
