"Why are you so busy trying to fit in when you were born to stand out?"

One thing important for all to see,
I belong to this planet; it does not belong to me.
And to this earth, I’ve made a special oath.
Intertwined are my memories in the branches of an old growth.
In a flower I see that they’ve bloomed for me
I realize my future and all that I can be.
But I belong to this planet; it does not belong to me.
I thank thee lord for these precious gifts,
To nothing more my spirit lifts
Than the call of a bird,
The song of a dove
Simplicity of nature fills me with love.
The sprinkle of the rain
A crackle of thunder
Worms wriggling in the soil down under
A peaceful elephant, a wild monkey
A prancing tiger, a shark in the sea.
I belong to this planet; it does not belong to me.
But humans, we take charge
And make our cities large
Expanding the boundaries of urban dwelling
Never listening to Gods telling
Toxic poisons filling the air;
The air that we forget we share
With the precious creatures of the land
Who really bear the upper hand
But they’ve given up their sacred homes
In faith, in love of our God above
That someday we might learn to care
To remember we’re not all that’s there
Existing in this wide expanse
Of universe, of endless dance
Of leaves a-falling down to the ground
Flower petals closing without a sound
Ocean’s crashing down on earth
Simultaneously with baby’s birth
New life just keeps coming around
Every corner there’s new to be found
But does that mean new pollution
Or can humans find a solution?
To finally make clear this common illusion
That the planet belongs to us.
In the end we shall see
We belong to the planet; it does not belong to me.
And I promise thee to keep forever
The special oath that I have made
All farewells I have bade
And all my condolences paid
To each and every being that gave its life
And struggled through the hardship and strife
Mother Nature paid the price
Trees go down, animals disappear
Do any of this we see or hear?
Flowers trampled, skies turn black
The oceans a bit like a garbage sack.
Winds cry out in deep despair
Humans, do you care?
This beautiful place we have been given
For all of humanity to live in
Needs precious love and special care
And once again I ask for all to see
We belong to this planet; it does not belong to me.

The author's comments:
I am extremely passionate about nature and the well-being of our planet. I wrote this poem on a whim, in an attempt to reach out to mankind and ask that we come together as one and try to save the earth and its creatures from any further harm.

At the touch of love, everyone becomes a poet.

Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.

A poem is never finished, only abandoned.

Art is the only way to run away without leaving home.

I love this so much. You are a very strong writer and I love the repitition of the words "I belong to this planet, it does not belong to me." Excellent.

This poem is so long, but it it is really good! The whole thing flows well and I agree with the message. Also nice rhyming, I always have trouble with that!
