First Snowfall
I look
through the window,
snow falling gently.
White crystals,
all different, all unique.
I hear
the whistle of the wind
almost blowing me over.
Children are laughing,
creating snow angels.
I taste
the sweetness of
christmas cookies.
Fresh out of the oven,
melting in my mouth.
I smell
the hot chocolate brewing,
the fireplace warming,
the chili
burning my tongue.
That first snowfall
is something different.
The snow, the wind,
those cookies, and the fireplace.
There is nothing quite like it.
