Social Truths
On the outside…
We all have brains
Beauty
Strength
Popularity
Riches
Confidence
Nothing can go wrong
When every day is a social paradise
And everyone certainly
Unquestionably
Has their life together
On the outside…
We all want, need desire
To be accepted
No one knows why
But even the strongest of us
Find it in our nature
To conform
And bury ourselves
To take on the persona
Of society
On the inside…
A plea for help
That is more of a whimper
Reaches out to others
Seeking the one heart that will listen
And understand
And love without judgment
As the truth of ourselves
That we suffocated so long ago
Comes to life
And demands to be heard
On the inside…
We are all afraid
Lonely
Angry
Depressed
Cast out
Not enough
The drive for acceptance
Can be overwhelming, controlling
Until the deepest, darkest part of you
Is the only place that you will find
Yourself
