Down the Autumn Path
The path speckled with leaves stretches on
along the half-empty trees
reeking of decay and loneliness.
The autumn months move slowly,
an unrelenting swirl of dry leaves
and an unconscious awareness of unwelcome change.
We move slowly towards the darkness of winter,
our freedom removed from our summer hair,
the light gone from our eyes.
We yearn for the twinkling stars of summer
as we look up at the shadow of the Autumn sky.
