Somewhere in Time
When I was six years old, you were four.
We would go in the backyard,
I, the handsome prince, you, the gorgeous princess.
We never thought about having to grow up,
Becoming a king and queen,
and how drastically it would change the both of our lives.
The great responsibilities of life put on our shoulders.
Now, after seven short years,
We don’t talk unless we want something from the other.
Never wanting to play dress up again.
With all of the smiles and happiness it brought us.
Seeing those bags full of old Halloween costumes,
Fancy dresses,
And the knight’s armor and sword,
Out by the curb makes my heart sink with sorrow.
Part of me wants to find the child in my again,
Wanting badly,
Like when we were younger,
To save you from the dragon,
With its scaly, beautiful body and gnawing teeth,
that valiantly guards you in your tower.
Wanting nothing but to protect you from the
Monsters and horrors in life.
But you are a young lady now
not needing your big sister anymore
To brush your hair,
but know this,
I will always love you.
