We are now
part of a garden, that is part of a
landscape, that is part of a world
that no one believes in. (Joshua Beckman)

I turned around and saw
He was looking at me.
My heart paused; immobile.

I didn't notice at first.
Sipping on his drink,
He held a pleasant scene.
Ebony curls, earnest looks.
Brown eyes were bashful.
I smiled in my heart.

There was a song playing,
My thoughts somewhat wavered.

I caught him looking over.
Our gaze met uneasily.
Then he leaned in to her.
Caressed her cheeks;
They looked perfected for each other.
I smiled for myself.

He was closer to her then.
Disillusioned gaze met with this
Stranger's eyes...
It must be lovely with him.
I couldn't help but
Insentience started hoping again.

What was left to hope for?
