two people
not quite men
baggy pants
baggy shirts
yes not quite men
but not boys
either
they lounge
by the railroad tracks
something pinched between
dry fingers
smoke swirls
and the pathway reeks
of rebellion
they’re burning their homework
their report card
essays, college applications
their whole future
up in smoke
smolders to soot
with each gray-tinged puff
