But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.
1 Peter 3:15

There is a child with
Beautiful eyes
Who turned to me
And watched me
Watch my heart.
He pressed a palm
To the glass
And stared like
He would never see enough
To satisfy his glare.
Three windows away
From potential freedom
There is a child with
Beautiful eyes
Who saw me
See my heart.

The author's comments:
This poem I wrote mostly about the little girl that lives next door to me. She is completely neglected, and she stares out her window at our house all summer long.
It was also about the children I worked with in camps this summer...who often saw me better than I see myself.
