My Man on the Moon
suspended in the ocean of night
a shiny silver dime
sparkles without the sun’s rays
glimmering in just
the glow of the stars
but it’s not old franklin
stamped on this coin
but another face
a laughing boy
watches the world
with winking eyes
wishing on airplanes
as they float past
dipping soft legs of light
into still oceans
gobbling up lost balloons
and though shadows
may fall across his radiant face
obscuring nose, mouth, forehead
he watches just the same
peaking out from behind dusky curtains
only an eyebrow visible
he whispers to me
“i’m still with you”
so whenever the piggy bank
nestled inside my chest
cradled beneath my ribs
feels empty
i reach for the winking boy
on the glowing coin
hung in the sky
