Promises
I can’t promise I’ll be perfect.
I can’t promise I won’t be
awkward and weird.
I can’t promise that I’ll finally
learn how to dance and stop
stepping on your feet.
I can’t promise I won’t forget
all the rules to the card games
that you always try to teach me.
I can’t promise I’ll always know
how to help with your problems
or to always have the answers
to all of your questions.
I can’t promise that everything
will go the way we always imagined
or that we will last forever.
I can promise that I will try as hard
as I can to be perfection in your eyes.
I can promise that I will at least
pretend to be smooth and charming.
I can promise that I will always
give you a foot rub after every
dance I leave your feet sore.
I can promise I will always play
with you even if I have no
idea what the hell I’m doing.
I can promise that I will at least
listen to everything you have to
say and give you arms to hug
and lips to kiss when you need them.
I can promise that I will do
everything possible to make you
happy, even if only for the present.
I can promise I love you.
