Slave of the Night
She can't move.
She can't speak.
She just lies there
As her floorboards creek.
She's a slave of the night.
Dark figure closing in,
His fingers brush along her skin,
And she can taste the beer on his breath.
Pain.
She cries as he smiles,
His laugh low and deep.
Her mother's down the hall,
Fast asleep.
And she cannot tell.
She knows all too well
The consequences.
Her mother would be devastated
And leave her.
The cops wouldn't believe her.
They'd play it off,
Shut down the case,
And let the man come back
To beat her.
So she only hides.
And dies as well.
She'll never be brave enough to tell.
She's a slave of the night.
