“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.”
Leo F. Buscaglia

A slow whisper echoes through my ears
I turn away
trying to hide my fears
they erupt inside me like a flame
as I try to show no shame

a silent tear runs down my cheek
as I try to let out one word and speak
if it is pain that you seek
please have mercy, let me go

I turn around to notice you there,
i stare a moment,
and see you lying lifeless in despair
I fear that that word was the last I will hear

that goodbye, a simple gesture
swells inside my soul
leaving a gap inside me,
leaving an empty whole.

I close my eyes
then whisper it one more time,
goodbye...
