I found her standing in her seat.
Her arms were clenched,
At perfect perpendicular angles,
Immobilized.
It was only her fingers that flew,
Across the dark oceans of keys.
She might have been beautiful.
Should have,
Would have,
Could have.
But there was regret seeping
From her fingers;
Frayed patchwork
Needled in her eyes.
Emptiness is hardest to see
Behind thickest of walls,
Coldest of skin.
She might have fallen in love.
Should have,
Would have,
Could have.
She broke her own heart.
