He was a well-dressed
but not a cruel-intentioned man. The shiny black shoes he wore
were symptomatic of his class, his background, his
lucrative profession. It was something she had always told herself
she wanted. She had, indeed, always thought that one day her problems would no longer be immediate: the lack of something that could basically be bought. And there he was, like an answer.

He was not like other people, he thought. He had ambitions. He deserved things. He was sincere.

And this was all?

The author's comments:
This was originally titled "What My Mother Thought (Upon Meeting My Father)" but I honestly have no idea where it came from.
