Sand Castles

There's so many things I'd rather do
than sit around pining over you
watching the tide
wash away the prints
that you made in the sand
as you left.
Did you feel my heart break
with every step,
as you tore away everything
I thought we had?
It hurt so much I couldn't stand it
as your silhouette faded
like castles in the sand.
Edges rounding,
walls giving way,
to the unending waves
you sent our way.
