"I really found the simple things live closest to your heart, I'm not alone because I live inside a world that is my own"

Never the pretty one
Always the smart one

Never the social lite
Always reading by a light

Never the perfect body
Always the "curvaceous" body

Never the younger, carefree child
Always the older, reserved child

Never know the right thing to say
Always says exactly what you're not supposed to say

Never set and ready with a plan
Always dreaming for a plan

Never used as a standard
Always used as a comparison not living up to a standard

Never going to have a permanent happy attitude
Always going to have that "ice queen" attitude

Never going to be you
Always going to hope that I won't have too.

The author's comments:
This poem was inspired by my sister, my younger, popular, perfect sister. She is everything I am not and everything I sometimes feel like I have to be. I submit this poem with hopes of it being published because I would love people to know what it feels like to live in the shadow of someone. I also want people who can connect to this poem to see it in writting. It is easier to process things sometimes when they are seen, especially laid out right on a piece of paper. Maybe this will inspire people to accept themselves and not try to be someone they're not.
