Favorite Quote:
Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible. ~T.E. Lawrence

Do you really need that mirror
Tucked away in your purse?
Do you really need to check to make sure
That your hair looks perfect every five seconds?
Do you really need to take photos of yourself
And post them online to get that validation?
Do you really need to fish for compliments
When you know you look beautiful?
Do you really need to put down others
To feel like your beauty is noticed?
It’s like a disease
You’re obsessed
And it’s spreading.
Sticking your face in the mirror
Flaunting your false beauty in front of others
And it’s becoming an epidemic
Bulimia, anorexia, depression, addiction
Don’t tell me it’s not your fault.

The author's comments:
I misread the word 'reflections' as 'reflectious', which then reminded me of 'infectious'. It got me thinking about media influences on young women and I feel like even though the media sometimes tries to say that girls should like who they are and feel confident, they just come out with more things that challenge that original statement. Confidence is easier said than done, and no matter how much the media tries to erase the self-loathing that they've forced on young women, it's always going to be there, with the skinny, pretty, successful models and actresses, the diet pills and programs, and the cosmetics commercials that are everywhere in our lives - the Internet, TV, magazines, billboards. Everywhere.
