Memento Mori
Angels cried
As smoke filled the skies
She heard the droning as the bombers flew by
A city of ruins, a place of shattered dreams
This is not a fantasy
No matter how unreal it seems
Raiders chased refugees through the empty city streets
She heard the cries of soldiers as they fell to the attack
She saw the soot and ashes turn the daytime black
The enemy marched through the streets on that day so dire
She watched her beloved fall like silhouettes to the crossfire
Angel tears rolled down her cheeks
She knew the blackened sky’s final prophecy
She started running towards her advisories
The grief became too much for her to carry
She laughed merrily as they opened fire
She fell to the ground, knowing she had expired
A crimson river poured out from her heart
The paint of nature’s art
The Earth took new life from the fallen angel’s blood
As she closed her eyes, dying in the mud
The doors to eternity were all that she could see
She drew her final breath
Today she turned thirteen
