Beginning
The me that was so afraid of endings was even more afraid of beginnings.
From my corner, I start to take slow steps.
So afraid of rejection, so afraid of failure, I hesitate.
I lower my head, eyes downcast. You extend your hand to me.
Against my cold flesh I feel your warmth.
I look up to meet your eyes, eyes that beam at me.
Such kindness causes me to smile.
You have no idea, no idea how much that hand meant to me.
Your warmth reaches beyond my hands; it purifies my soul, and rescues me from the monster that is
solitude.
My steps grow faster and bigger, I can see the sun now.
Thank you, thank you for saving me.
As I think about the end, I know the tears will not stop falling
But for now I cherish this beginning, this moment, I smile, and that is all that matters.
