Black outside
Black inside
Warm blankets
Cool pillows

Silence
is all I hear
and it is
deafening

Five other
people
are peacefully
sleeping

Why Can't I?

This
night
is
perfect

Except,
my brain
won't shut
down

A million thoughts
race
through my
head

"soccer practice
tomorrow...
go for a run
in the morning..."

"can't wait
to see him tomorrow...
wonder what
will happen..."

All brain
waves
focused on
tomorrow

All I want
is to sleep
so I can get
there...

My brain is
still awake
My body can't
rest

Why Can't I?

This
night
is
perfect

Except,
I still
can't
fall asleep

Cool
air
circulates
my room

Silk
blankets
keep me
toasty

Shades
are
drawn
tight

Waiting
for the
impending
sun

Five other
people
are peacefully
sleeping

Why Can't I?

This
night
is
perfect

Except,
for my
unexplained
insomnia

The author's comments:
I wrote this poem one night, when I laid awake in bed for almost four hours. I just couldn't seem to fall asleep, so I thought writing might make me tired so I could get some shut eye. By the time I was done writing this poem it was two o'clock in the morning. Eventually I fell asleep, and I ended up with a new poem before I even went to school. I hope you enjoy it. :)
