"Never let the future disturb you. You will meet it, if you have to, with the same weapons of reason which today arm you against the present." --Marcus Aurelius

We all bear lovely burdens
Like a soldier bears his gun
We all wish they'd come back to us
When all is said and done
We all forget our yesterday
In the dizzy of tomorrow
We all forget to trade or pay
For the love that we have borrowed

I can't taste your "sorry"
Anymore than my own blood
Why do you make a mess of all the
Youth we have, the love
In a heartbeat, I would write away
Your perfect red-black sin
If I knew you would not bury
Your knife in me again

We all take careful records
Of the lives we never owned
We all destroy our medicine
To prove that we have shown
All our scars and pretty bite marks
From lovers we can't hold
We all forget to say goodbye
When our actions grow too bold

I folded back your memory
On itself like it was paper
I could write on to maybe ease the pain
Of having to discover
The life I thought I'd lost in you
The purity that I'd regained
And every word that I wasted on you
Every ounce of mortal shame

We all take brutal beatings
In the terror of our minds
When the pain of being beautiful
Is far too much to find
In all your covered daydreams
Under "now, until tomorrow"
We all forget to trade or pay
For the love that we have borrowed
