We Should Watch The Raindrops
Why do we watch the sunrise so eagerly?
Dedicating those few still moments
To witness vibrant power pound at the sky
Shaking the stairs from their slumber
Chasing away another heavy night
Why do we wait for the light content sigh?
Before we lace up our hopes tightly
And scrape our thoughts bent in the groves
Of our shoes
So by the time the car seat creaks its’ wake
The dull grey sludge is left panting on the driveway
Scorched by the jealous sun
Hungrily ripped up by the heat of the day
Torn like the smile on your face
Just before that rumbling beast of truth
Has snapped at your ears and dug at your mind
Until the one expression you can grasp
Is the opposite of what your face chooses to place
