An Ongoing Song
In the still of the night,
The music plays.
The voices hush.
And my eyes focus on a blurred image,
The blurred image of you.
Time has been passing by without a sign.
Everything has a surreal tone to it,
But still the same.
Yet I still can’t make out your face.
I can see something in your eyes,
Something that wasn’t there before.
Will you tell me what it is?
Or, could you ask it to leave?
I really don’t appreciate it,
And I can see you don’t either.
I thought of you today,
As I opened up a book.
I read your name repeatedly,
Trying to figure out what it meant,
What it meant to me.
Who was that person?
Certainly not the same person you are now.
I don’t really like who you are now.
I think the reasoning might be that,
I still love who you were,
Rather than who you are.
But as this song continues,
So will you,
Because you will be okay.
No matter what you think,
No matter what you might hope.
